Using a Thin Slit to Improve the Elevation Resolution of a Linear-Array Photoacoustic Tomography System

Photoacoustic tomography is an upcoming optical imaging technique in medical applications. However, one of the issues in this imaging is the three-dimensional imaging capability of a linear array is limited, due to its poor elevational resolution. The University of Buffalo researchers have designed a novel device and method to improve the elevation resolution by ten times without compromising scanning time for the image.
